New How to prepare your older child for the newborn session in Anna Orr studio Saskatoon
Here are some helpful tips to prepare your older child for the newborn session:
If your child has been the only one up until now, the arrival of their sibling may have turned their world upside down. They might not be too keen on the photoshoot, so here are a few suggestions to make things easier:
- Involve them in caring for the baby, like getting diapers or holding the bottle during feeding. This will help them bond with the newborn.
- Encourage your older child to lie down with their arms around the baby, pretending to sleep and giving gentle kisses.
- Try to have a calm morning before the shoot. Toddlers and newborns can pick up on adult energy, so staying relaxed can help prevent any acting out.
- Make sure your child is well-rested and fed before the session. Bring snacks and toys to keep them entertained (avoid screens like phones and iPads, as they can cause frustration when taken away for photos).
- Keep an open mind. While we all want that perfect shot, sometimes kids have their own agenda. We'll do our best, but if your toddler isn't cooperating, it's best to call it a day.
