Newborn Photography Session FAQs
When do I book a Newborn Photography Session?
If you contact us during your second trimester, we will schedule you for an appointment before your baby's birth. You can contact us after the baby is born and set up a time to photograph them. We recommend that you schedule your newborn session at least 2 - 3 months in advance so we can get you on our calendar. Booking your photography session in advance will give us enough time to find the perfect date for your baby's birth, and it will help ensure that we can reserve a slot for you. It's important to let us know of any changes in your due date so that we can accommodate you for the best possible time.
How old should my newborn be for our Newborn Photography Session?
I offer newborn photography - in the first few weeks of life, your baby will be very sleepy and easy to pose. The ideal period is shortly after birth, usually until your newborn is 14 days old. We have shot babies as young as five days old, but babies within the 10-14day range make for ideal models. After this period, it's hard for you and me to get the photos we want because your baby won't want to sleep for long periods.
Should I bring a pacifier to my Newborn Photography Session?
Bringing your baby's pacifier to the session will be helpful. It helps soothe babies into poses and makes transitions easier. Sucking can be calming and nurturing for babies, even if they are not used to the pacifier. I will help you position them comfortably in the best way possible, making getting them to sleep more manageable for you. A pacifier is a handy tool during the newborn baby photography session.
What if my baby is sleepy for our Newborn Photography Session?
All of those classic, sleepy newborn images we like to capture, so we recommend getting your baby into his or her deepest sleep before the session time. Once he or she is asleep, you can place him or her in the bassinet and I will take the pictures. It may sounds counter-intuitive, but try keeping your baby awake 30 minutes to an hour just before our session time. Don’t stress if you cannot do this! We understand that it's challenging to get your baby to sleep and stay asleep. f it sounds like your baby isn't going to give you the chance of capturing those sleepy images let’s work together on a back-up plan! I will have props and blankets for you to use. And if that doesn’t work we can try taking some awake baby photos.
Do I need to supply props or backdrops for my Newborn Photography Session?
My professional studio is a cozy, welcoming space that strives to make every client feel at home. I work with all my clients to create the perfect personalized experience for them. I will work with you to choose what props you need. I have a wide variety of props, hats, headbands, bow-ties, blankets, baskets and backdrops for your use. I can also provide you with other items to best suit your needs. Let me know about any special items you may want to use in the session before it begins so that I can be sure to have them ready for you. If there's any special items of your own that you would like to use please let me know so we can discuss it together, it is my pleasure to work with you and bring all your desires to reality.
What session should I book one hour or three hours session?
Wrapping and posing babies isn’t a race. Every baby is different – some settle quickly, and others take a bit more time. Safety is my priority. Not all babies are comfortable in all poses, and so I can not guarantee any particular pose for this reason.Please note that I will not put babies into dangerous props such as helmets or fire-fighting equipment due to safety reasons. Please keep your requests limited to 1 or 2 things. I use a flow to help keep the baby comfy and keep the session going smoothly.
Can we include my other children, baby's siblings?
Newborn sessions primarily concentrate on the newborn baby. We will take some images of the entire family, taking around 30 minutes. A few pictures of baby’s siblings, a picture of his dad, picture his mommy and the whole family together. ***Please note that Anna Orr Photography will do images of the family at the beginning of the session. Children will be required to leave the studio once their portion of the images of the family have been taken. This gives us a quiet environment to complete the newborn photography session.
